The man about town

The best of us
Game recap: 06 November 2013

The crew (minus Krylsteln) decide to set an ambush for the would-be ambushers of Raydo in the Grand Bazaar

Maximus and Lareth disguise themselves (or are disguised, in the case of Lareth) as half-orcs to act as Grax's bodyguards

Glaskanon disguises himself as the redoubtable Raydo

Koge remains undisguised

Grax, Maximus, and Lareth head to Grax's booth in the Bazaar. Grax continues to pretend to be selling wares while Lareth casts Aid on Maximus. Grax scolds Lareth for not being surreptitious enough. Lareth and Maximus head a few steps away and pretend to 'take a whizz' against a wall while Lareth also casts Bear's Endurance on Maximus. The casting of Align Weapon unfortunately fails.

Meanwhile Raydo struts through the Bazaar greeting random folk and generally acting as the flamboyant playboy that he is. A slaver beckons him into his tent to inspect his wares and Raydo is taken by one young woman. After much heckling skillfully played (and a secret casting of Charm Person) by the indubitable Raydo they agree on a price and the money is exchanged. Raydo then begins to insult the slaver and curse him for his despicable business to which the slaver replies that by paying him Raydo has only contributed to his business. Outwitted but not to be outdone Raydo then makes a grand show of freeing his newly purchased slave.

Raydo and the ex-slave Jessica then exit the tent and head to another in order to get Jessica some new clothes. Having only just freed her Raydo then shackles the woman once again -- but this time only metaphorically -- with his declaration that she is now 'his woman' and that they will 'get married'. Jessica is understandably beside herself and doesn't know what to make of the sudden life changes she's rapidly going through.

Koge has in the meantime spotted a suspicious looking man whittling a stick near the area where Raydo and Jessica have been shopping. She communicates this telepathically to Glaskanon/Raydo. In order to spring the trap he moves towards the man that Koge told him about.

The trap is sprung: Two crossbow bolts hit our man Raydo in the chest and he takes 9 HP damage plus Constitution damage from a poison on one of the bolts, lowering his ability score by 1 and HP by an additional 13. The snipers reveal their locations to be on nearby rooftops and the man who had been whittling stands up and draws a sword.

Initiative is to be rolled...

  1. Good fun. I especially liked the metaphorical shackleing.

Just for the record next week: damage was -9 due to fire resistance.
